PRENATAL MUSIC THERAPY
An important and remarkable time for brain development, the prenatal stages of pregnancy lay the foundations for future psychological development during the child’s early years. Research indicates that auditory learning is possible from 27 weeks gestational age when low pitched and high pitched sounds, rhythm and speech sounds can be heard.
Exposure to music therapy and therapeutic music-making whilst pregnant:
  • Promotes positive long-term neural effects including recognition of melodies, discriminating between and recognising the mother’s voice from other females, facilitating early language learning and providing a secure basis for attachment.
  • Provides bonding opportunities for mother and infant during pregnancy
  • Creates a reduction in stress levels which supports positive prenatal development and is relaxing for both mother and fetus
  • Encourages better sleeping habits after birth
  • Can help ease parental anxiety regarding pregnancy and childbirth
