HOW MUSIC THERAPY WORKS

WHAT FORMATS DOES A MUSIC THERAPY SESSION TAKE?

Seen either in either a 1:1 setting or within a group, people find a music therapy format that suits their individual needs. This may mean that family, friends, carers and staff to become also become involved in music therapy sessions in a way that is helpful to everyone.

The format of music therapy sessions can include:
  • playing and making up music on a wide range of percussion instruments
  • singing both improvised songs and/or familiar songs
  • creating songs/rap music
  • listening to music
  • dancing or moving to music
  • performing and rehearsing music
  • writing stories in music
