SUPERVISION
Supporting children and adults in schools, care homes and elsewhere can be an emotionally complex and demanding process for staff teams. Professional clinical supervision can provide opportunities for reflective learning and present an effective solution for emotionally challenging work.

As HCPC registered arts psychotherapists, MTW’s team of therapists are required to undertake monthly ongoing clinical supervision for their own personal support, CPD commitments and professional guidance. Senior members of our team have over 20 years experience in the field of psychotherapeutic intervention and clinical supervision. We are pleased to be able to extend our supervision services to schools and care homes which may require external input and would like their staff to receive a bespoke support service.
What is clinical supervision?

Taking place regularly in a 1:1 setting, supervision can quickly become a reliable, effective and highly valued part of staff culture. It has been associated with reduced staff turnover and is a significant way in which management can fulfil its duty of care responsibilities.

As well as empowering individuals to better manage the personal and professional aspects of their role, supervision can ensure that staff:
  • re working to their maximum potential
  • have better job satisfaction, attitude and commitment to their work
  • have a safe, confidential environment to explore the more emotionally demanding aspects of their work
  • are constantly improving their practice
What happens in a supervision session?
Meetings can take place onsite or as an outreach service for organisations and will usually include all or some of the following elements:
  • a formal process of personal support and professional guidance
  • case study / clinical discussion, review and reflection
  • developing awareness of reaction to situations, self-reflection of values and approaches
  • continuing professional development of knowledge, learning and competences
  • identifying training needs and creating opportunity for improvements
  • ensuring best practice and professional conduct
  • receiving external feedback on skills
Who can attend supervision?
MTW can provide supervision for those staff supporting individuals who may:
  • be experiencing communication difficulties
  • be using mental health services
  • be exhibiting emotional or behavioural disabilities
  • be experiencing anger management issues
  • have a diagnosis of ASC
  • have learning disabilities
  • have offended or are likely to offend
  • be experiencing addiction
