LOOKED AFTER CHILDREN
Music Therapy Works has extensive experience in offering specialised and dedicated services to supporting the mental health provision for looked after children who may have experienced early childhood trauma with unfolding developmental attachment issues. We can provide services which provide support during periods of family conflict, breakdown, transitioning to new homes or schools, new adoption and fostering care settings, dissolution and reconstitution.

Seen as individuals or in groups, music therapy can be an ideal intervention for children and adolescents who are experiencing:
  • Social, emotional, behavioural and mental health issues
  • Higher risks of becoming involved in anti-social behaviour and offending
  • Difficulties with school attendance and engagement
  • Challenges in forming and establishing positive relationships with peers and friends
In the last few years mainstream and special schools have begun investing their Pupil Premium funding in Music Therapy in order to enhance Looked After Children’s social, emotional and mental well-being. It has also assisted in the child developing relationships with peers and improving their access to the curriculum.
