DRUMMING FOR DEVELOPMENT
The Music Therapy Works Drumming for Development Approach
Sound is a physical vibration resonating with all individuals at every developmental stage.

The organising and unique structure of rhythm can produce far-reaching effects on the brain, influencing thinking, perception and learning ability. Non-verbal communication skills such as turn-taking and sharing can bridge the gap towards improving verbal skills, reducing a sense of isolation and encourage positive changes in mood and emotional well-being.
Why drumming?

Individuals do not need to have any previous musical abilities to take part. Creative drumming is a unifying experience which can offer:
  • natural structure and group cohesiveness
  • stimulation of neurological responses: we are ‘hard-wired’ to respond to a strong rhythmic pulse
  • opportunities for leading / conducting and positively influencing peers by an adult or child
  • a reduction in stress and a boost to the immune system
  • a source of music education
  • a meditative state; decreased anxiety and tension;
  • the release of negative feelings
  • Improved emotional regulation
