Early Years

Early years and Music Therapy

Using a multi-sensory approach, music therapy can assess children in their early years’ settings to evaluate strengths and needs such as: communication, concentration and attention span; physical, sensory and cognitive skills; self-regulation of behaviour; sequencing and memory skills; awareness of others and levels of self-confidence, motivation and decision-making skills. Providing services in nurseries, infant centres, individual and group parent-child groups, we can facilitate work between caregiver and child and/or families to support adoption, fostering, emergency looked after children care.

Music in early years has been used to successfully improve:

  • listening, attention and engagement skills
  • recall of information and auditory processing
  • overall wellbeing
  • relationships and connection between child and care-giver
  • a sense of play and the promotion of play at home
  • confidence in caregivers and the quality of their connection with the child
