Sue Ayres is now retired after over forty years in education. She taught in a number of secondary schools in various West Midlands authorities rising to Deputy Head level then in 2003 joined Birmingham local authority as Head of Service to take the strategic lead for raising the educational attainment of children in the care system. Her success was recognised both locally and nationally. This work also provided experience of multi agency partnership work with Health and Social Care services.
Following this role Sue was asked to join the National Strategies programme as a Senior Regional Advisor for SEND to advise local authorities in Yorkshire and Humberside on their strategy for SEND.
In 2011 Sue decided to set up her own business as a consultant providing interim management and helping authorities prepare for Ofsted inspections around Looked After Children. This allowed her the flexibility to work part-time and to care for her elderly parents.
Sue has always been involved with voluntary work and in the past was a trustee of Baron Davenports charitable trust. She has an interest in visual impairment and was previously a governor for a school for blind and visually impaired young people in Worcester and is now a trustee of Warwickshire Vision support, a charity which provides support to VI adults in Warwickshire.
In her spare time Sue likes travel and enjoys going to the theatre particularly ballet.
